June Already

As you may have noticed, I have not been keeping up on the blog for a seriously long time. Apologies all around. I have been massively swamped with life things.

So, to give you a quick(ish) rundown, it's June, and it's high wedding season. This means that planning my fall wedding has been time-consuming, stressful, highly entertaining, fun, difficult, and awe-striking, all at the same time.

I will be marrying the epic love of my life in October, and while I wrote romance long before I met my significant other, I can now see all the work that goes on behind the scenes in a novel that I don't think I've ever really noticed before, and that's part of the joy of writing and reading romance. It gives you the ideal version of love and romance. It shows you the best parts, even when there are epic fights and big black moments, and all of those things.

And the minutia of wedding planning is not something you'll ever see in a romance, even one that revolves around a wedding. Because sometimes, this shit is boring as hell! Sometimes, when the place you're supposed to order four ties from suddenly is out of stock in your color, and then proceeds to tell you that the ties are getting discontinued and will never be available again - okay, not so boring. Enter a trek to the local mall where my future hubby and I walked around 5,000 steps in 4 hours, stopping in a dozen stores where the sales-people looked at us and said, pityingly, "Oh, you're looking for solid green ties... nope. Not here. Not anywhere. Buy them online."

Oh, yeah, we already freaking tried that! Thanks.

<le grand sigh>

But, in the end, it all worked out and we found some great ties. We did end up buying them online, without seeing the color in person. That was nerve wracking. But the ties are in, and we love them.

I am slowly starting to feel like we have a handle on this thing, though for the past several months, I've felt like no matter how much we got done, there was still so much more to do, and I've been batting this bone-deep feeling that I just know I am forgetting something. Something huge and essential that's staring me right in the face, but is still somehow eluding me. I've checked in with both my Maid and Matron of Honor and they can't think of anything that isn't already on the to-do list, or already checked off. My S.O. and I have gone through the list and checked it twice, Santa-style, and it appears that everything is under control. I know this to be an illusion. A false sense of control that neither of us wants to give up. (Let's hear it for control freaks! woohoo)

So we've got the venue, the photographer, the officiant, the caterer, the cake decorator, the maid/matron have their dresses, the bride has her dress (minus a few minimal alterations), the groom has his tux (AND His tie!!!!!!), accessories have been purchased for both bride and groom, and the attendants, gifts have been purchased and packaged for most of the family/bridal party, decorations and favors are sitting on the shelf, the seating chart and guest list are shaping up, the playlist is coming together, the first dance, aisle music, and important songs have been chosen, burned to CDs, outdoor acoustics have been tested, menu is decided, rehearsal dinner is booked, accommodations are set.

So... Interwebz! What the hell am I forgetting? Help feed my neuroses. Comment below on what else I need to take care of. We are T-minus 18 weeks, and I cannot wait for it to be October already!
